Lactose intolerant in Namibia

Food

Has anybody been to Namibia and know if it’ll be easy to eat when having a lactose intolerance? Do they use (milk based) butter to cook everything?

Namibia is actually pretty manageable for lactose intolerance. The cuisine leans heavily on grilled meat, maize, and vegetables. Dairy does appear in some dishes — butter in cooking, cream in sauces — but it is not as pervasive as European food. The bigger challenge is communicating it clearly since English is widely spoken but dietary terminology is not always understood the same way. I would say write it down, show it, and ask your guide to help translate the severity of it on the first day.

This is useful. I have a similar situation with a gluten intolerance and was wondering the same thing about Namibia. The guide communication advice is the key thing I think.

Same question from me for a different destination. Glad this came up.
