My own room price doubled after booking — has this happened to anyone else?

Accommodation

Booked a G Adventures trip back in October during the sale period. My own room was showing at £599 at the time but I didn't add it immediately, figured I'd sort it out closer to departure.

Checked again this week and it's jumped to £1,240. Contacted G Adventures to see if it's an error but wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Is it just hotel availability tightening or does this seem unusually steep?

Trying to decide whether to just share with someone or wait and see if the price corrects.

That's a massive jump. I haven't had this exact situation but I can see why it's frustrating, especially when you've been monitoring the trip for months.

One thing I'd say though is don't let the MOR price put you off the trip entirely if it's a route you really want to do. Sharing can actually be fine on most trips, and you might end up with someone you get on with really well.

Everything's going up to be fair. Hotels raise their rates, operators have to follow. Not much they can do about it really.

I get that but if hotel costs went up that much you'd expect the base tour price to increase too. That hasn't moved at all, which is why I'm wondering if it's a system error rather than market pricing.

I've always booked to share and honestly it's been fine most of the time. You might get lucky and get a room to yourself anyway if numbers work out that way.

On longer trips I'll sometimes request my own room for a few specific nights if I need the space, but for the full trip I'd rather save the money.

I'd be fine with sharing normally but I snore pretty badly and the one time I shared on a trip a few years ago my roommate was not happy about it. Would rather pay extra than ruin someone's holiday over something I can't control.

Tours lock at booking, extras don't. I learned this on a Peru trip when the Machu Picchu train upgrade jumped £80 between when I booked the tour and when I went to add it three weeks later.

G Adventures isn't holding inventory for add-ons the way they do for base tour spots. If you're set on MOR, book it when you book the trip or accept that it'll move with hotel availability.

That said, a jump from £599 to £1,240 does sound extreme. Worth checking if someone else on the same departure is seeing the same price or if it's a booking system glitch.

I'd wait until you book flights before adding anything else. Prices can shift around a lot and sometimes they come back down.

Just checked my booking for a different G Adventures trip (booked on sale, similar timeframe) and my MOR option has only gone up £40 since I booked. Nowhere near double.

I'd definitely contact them directly because that feels like an error to me.

If you do end up sharing, pack good earplugs for your roommate. The silicone moldable ones work way better than foam.

But yeah that price jump is wild. I'd push back with G Adventures customer service and see if they can explain what changed. Sometimes these things correct themselves once someone actually looks at it.
