My own room price doubled after booking — has this happened to anyone else?

Accommodation

Booked a G Adventures trip back in October during the sale period. My own room was showing at £599 at the time but I didn't add it immediately, figured I'd sort it out closer to departure.

Checked again this week and it's jumped to £1,240. Contacted G Adventures to see if it's an error but wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Is it just hotel availability tightening or does this seem unusually steep?

Trying to decide whether to just share with someone or wait and see if the price corrects.

G Adventures discontinuing Uganda Overland: Gorillas & Chimps

Update
G Adventures has confirmed this itinerary is being discontinued. The final departure is scheduled for December 2026. Travelers with existing bookings have been offered two options: 1. Rebook with a 15% discount onto any East Africa 18-to-Thirtysomethings tour departing in 2027. 2. Cancel with a full refund. Note: bookings paid with a Travel Credit or Lifetime Deposit will have those reinstated to your G Adventures profile for future use and are not eligible for a cash refund. If you are looking at alternatives for gorilla trekking in the region, Intrepid run a similar itinerary — see the Remarkable Rwanda & Gorillas of Uganda trip page on Wannago where alternatives are being discussed.

Three days in Cape Town before the tour — how to use the time properly

Advice
Arriving into Cape Town three days before my tour starts in August. Done a good bit of G Adventures over the years but this is my first Southern Africa trip and I want to make the most of the pre-tour time. Table Mountain is obvious and I want to get that done early in case of weather. Robben Island is on the list too. That probably fills one full day. For the other two days I am torn between the Cape of Good Hope drive down the peninsula and a wine tour out towards Stellenbosch, though I know there is a winery stop in the itinerary already so maybe that is overkill. Has anyone done this trip and spent time in Cape Town beforehand? What would you prioritise and what is not worth the time? Also any recommendations on where to stay for the pre-tour nights would be useful, somewhere central that is easy to get around from.

Getting dirhams at Marrakech airport — what actually works for Canadians

Advice
Arriving into Marrakech in a few weeks and trying to sort out cash before I land. I am Canadian with an RBC card and have been reading conflicting things about ATMs at the airport — some people say the fees are terrible, others say certain machines are fine, and I have seen warnings about machines that are not trustworthy. Can anyone give me a straightforward answer on where to get dirhams when you first land? Is the airport the right place or should I wait and find a bank in the city? And is there a specific ATM network or machine type to look for or avoid? Any advice from people who have actually done this recently would be really helpful.

Morocco in July and August — is the heat actually a problem?

Advice
Looking at doing a G Adventures Morocco trip in July or August this year and the heat is the one thing giving me pause. I handle warm weather reasonably well but I am also not someone who loves being miserable in 40 degree heat. Has anyone done Morocco in summer? Did it affect what you could do or how much you enjoyed it? The itinerary has a lot of medina walking and market time which I imagine gets intense when it is that hot. Also wondering if July versus August makes any meaningful difference or if they are both equally brutal.

The G Adventures app is underrated — worth downloading before your trip

General Discussion
On my 11th trip with G Adventures now and I still see people on day one who haven't downloaded the app. Worth a reminder since it is genuinely useful and most people overlook it. Once you book, your trip shows up in the app with the full itinerary. You can see who else is booked on your departure, how many people are currently signed up, and the number updates as new bookings come in. There is a chat feature that lets you connect with your group before you even leave home. The bit I find most useful is connecting with people who are arriving in the starting city early. If a few of you are there a day or two before the group meeting you can make plans, grab dinner, see a bit of the city together. Takes the edge off day one when you would otherwise be walking into a room full of strangers. Early on there were some reports of glitches but it has been solid for a while now. Works well in my experience. Just download it when you book. Most people wait until the last minute or forget entirely and miss the early group chat.

Altitude sickness on the Inca Trail — what actually helped me

Advice
Just got back from this with Intrepid. I was pretty anxious about altitude beforehand so sharing what worked since I wish someone had written this up before I went. Before the trek I arrived in Cusco three days early. This was the single most important thing I did. The first two days I barely did anything, just walked around slowly and let my body adjust. Coca tea at the hotel every morning and evening, and I drank way more water than felt necessary, four to five litres a day. I also got Diamox prescribed before leaving home. Started taking it two days before we began hiking. Brought ibuprofen for headaches, electrolyte tablets, and bought coca leaves in Cusco which are much cheaper there than anywhere else. On the trek itself the guide set a slow pace and was firm about it when people tried to push ahead. That mattered a lot on day two going over Dead Woman's Pass at 4215m. It was tough but manageable if you don't rush it. Forced myself to drink water even when I wasn't thirsty. A couple of things surprised me. Sleeping at altitude was actually harder than hiking. Bring earplugs too, the mountain huts are not quiet. The guides carry oxygen tanks just in case but I never saw anyone need one. The people who struggled most were the ones who flew in the day before and skipped acclimatisation in Cusco. Don't do that. The porters and guides know exactly what pace works, trust them when they tell you to slow down. Happy to answer questions if anyone is planning this trip.
