Is going to Machu Picchu/Cusco considered an “extreme sport” due to high altitude?

Advice

Hi!

I am purchasing travel insurance and I’m not sure if I need to do the add on for high altitude hiking. Don’t want to under/over cover. What did you do regarding insurance when you travel there? TY!

No. Not extreme sport. People are living normal lives at that altitude.

Nope. It's a relatively short hike relative to other iconic multi-day hikes, and at much lower altitude than many

It isn't just about altitude. Tripping and breaking a bone on the Inca Trail would mean needing to be evacuated out. Insurance is just that, it insures you are covered if something unfortunate happens. I truly don't know if the Inca Trail is considered an "extreme sport" but it would be unfortunate if insurance rejected a claim based on that. ie considering it "extreme."
